Bible Translation

I currently work with three teams of mother-tongue speakers to help them translate the Bible into their own language: Sara Madjingay, Sara Kaba Naa, and Sara Kaba Deme. 

The Shepherd's Bag

In French, this ministry is called La Gibecière du Berger, taken from 1 Samuel 17:40: 

"And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine." 

 

This ministry helps to provide Chadian pastors and Bible college students with books they need for their ministries.  Most of the books that pastors need are not available in Chad, and must be ordered from overseas, sometimes with high shipping costs, and with some risk of books being damaged or lost en route. But in spite of these challenges, dozens of pastors, Bible college students, and even some laypeople have been provided with needed resources to use in their Christian lives and ministries.

 

Bread of Life Christian Bookstore

This ministry sells books for a small profit, which so far has all gone to my Chadian ministry partner, Linda Mounta.  We sell books, children's club manuals, Bibles, New Testaments, and songbooks to Chadian Christians, whether laypeople or pastors.  

 

We are seeking to expand this ministry. So far it has been a mobile bookstore, set up every Sunday morning on a folding table at church. Please pray as we desire to build a permanent bookstore building and hire a regular bookstore worker.

Teaching Hebrew

This is my newest ministry. In mid-2020, while most of the world was in lockdown, we in Chad were not in lockdown, but travel restrictions and school closures kept most of our Bible college students on campus with little to occupy their time.  One of the students asked if I would teach him the Hebrew alphabet. Before I knew it, I had three students and was teaching an unofficial first-year Hebrew course. 

 

This unofficial course has become an official one. In October 2021, I started teaching elementary and intermediate Hebrew at ESTEB (Ecole Supérieure Theologique des Eglises Baptistes), the Bible college here in Balimba.  This ministry will keep me busy for sure, but it is exciting to watch the students learn. 

 

Deputation/Furlough

Deputation (raising support) and furlough (reporting back to supporters) are important parts of a missionary's ministry.
