Epidemics in Chad

Did You Know?

Remember the Ebola virus epidemic several years ago? People were quite understandably concerned for me and for other missionaries in Chad while it was spreading. The virus did reach neighboring Nigeria, but thankfully it did not spread to Chad. So far, Chad has not recorded a case of the Ebola virus since it was discovered in 1976.

However, Chad does suffer from outbreaks of other infectious diseases, such as cholera, polio, and measles. Other diseases such as malaria, typhoid, and hepatitis are also common.

Diseases and epidemics and pandemics may sound frightening, but ultimately our lives and our bodies are in God's hands. I'm reminded of the Sara Kaba Deme language, which translates the word "trust" as "give one's body into someone's hands". So Proverbs 3:5 is translated this way, "Give your body into the hands of the Lord with all your heart". Let's trust Him!
