Pray for Literacy in Chad

Bibles International has been working in Chad for many years now, and we praise the Lord for the Scriptures that He has allowed us to produce in various languages. The need is still very great! But perhaps an even greater need than Bible translation is literacy. In a country where literacy rates are less than 50% for men and less than 25% for women, this can be a real problem. Even when there is a Bible available in a language, there are still many people who cannot read it. But praise the Lord that He is providing more laborers for this ministry! We now have a Chadian national to oversee our literacy program in that country. I recently received the following email from the BI literacy coordinator, Connie Champeon:
We are doing a huge first in the literacy department. We are getting our first national coordinator. We have been struggling to figure out a way to do a continuous literacy program in Chad. The people feel the number one reason translated Scriptures are not being used in Chad is illiteracy. Constant political turmoil and difficult physical circumstances make it challenging, if not impossible, for us to be there regularly or for public schools to have classes. We've come to realize, if we're going to have an effective program, we're going to have to have national leaders who can get out into the villages. Nadjiam is a school teacher and has been hired by the national Chad committee to be a village coordinator...He's going to start by visiting the hundreds of village churches in southern Chad to find out what has been effective and how we can best help them. Please keep Nadjiam in your prayers!
